CNN's chief International anchor, on Monday, revealed to viewers that she has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
The 63-year old said it's the reason she went on a break from work.
She added that she has had a major surgery but the doctors couldn't get it out. She said she has begun her chemotherapy treatment to fight the cancer and she is confident about the outcome.
“I had major surgery to remove it, and I am now going through several months of chemotherapy for the very best possible long term prognosis, and I am confident even though doctors weren’t able to remove it.
“I am saying this in the interest of transparency, but really as a shout out to most early diagnosis.
“I urge women to educate themselves on this disease; to get all the regular screenings and scans that they can. Women should always listen to their bodies and ensure that medical check-ups aren’t ignored,” she said.
Amanpour is one the oldest Journalist on CNN. Joined the international news cable channel in 1983 and left in 2010.
She also works with ABC as an Anchor for a while before returning to CNN in 2012
Amanpour is one of the best and most fearless journalists in the world covering international conflicts.
Amanpour replaced Charlie Rose on PBS in 2018 after his show was cancelled over sexual harassment allegations.
She was married to former U.S diplomat, James Rubin; who served as Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs under former President Bill Clinton and later worked as a journalist, before their divorce after 20 years of marriage.
They both had on a son, Darius, born in 2000.
