Nigerian singer Victony has revealed that he will be undergoing a fifth surgery, nearly four years after surviving a tragic car crash in 2021 that left him in a coma for four days.

During an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the Afrobeats star opened up about the challenges he faced in his recovery journey, including the frustration of using a wheelchair while shooting the music video for Holy Father.

Reflecting on the ordeal, he said, “That period felt like a major downtime in my life. I was frustrated because being in a wheelchair while filming Holy Father wasn’t something I wanted. I don’t like being pitied, so it took time for me to accept the experience.”

Victony shared that he still experiences pain in his legs and will require another surgery. However, he has come to terms with the incident as part of his life story.

“The accident shaped who I am today. I don’t want to be defined by it, but I acknowledge that it’s part of my journey,” he added.

The singer also revealed his struggle with survivor’s guilt, admitting that he wasn’t informed about the death of a fellow passenger until weeks after regaining consciousness.

“For some reason, I felt bad that I survived while someone else didn’t. They didn’t tell me immediately, and when I finally found out, it took away some of my joy. I was frustrated, angry, but also grateful to be alive.”

Despite the emotional toll, Victony said he was able to overcome the guilt and focus on healing, both physically and mentally.

His upcoming surgery marks another step in his long road to recovery.
