In response to the recent wave of violence that claimed lives in Uromi, Edo State, the Federal Government, in partnership with the Edo State Government, has inaugurated a high-level fact-finding committee to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killings and proffer lasting solutions to the growing insecurity in the area.
The committee, which includes representatives from the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), civil society groups, and community elders, has been mandated to conduct a detailed investigation into the root causes of the incident. It will engage with affected families, community leaders, and security personnel on the ground to gather eyewitness accounts, forensic reports, and other relevant information.
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, who condemned the killings in strong terms, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and restoring peace in the community. Meanwhile, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Interior, emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between federal and state security agencies to curb rising violence in rural and semi-urban communities.
The findings from the committee will guide future policy actions, including enhanced community policing strategies and socio-economic interventions aimed at addressing the underlying causes of restiveness in the region.
