The former President of America, Donald Trump has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for banning Twitter in Nigeria.

According to Trump, it is a victory for the people of Nigeria and a needed check on the excesses of the social media giant.

“Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their President,” Mr Trump said in a statement issued Tuesday night.

Trump further added that he wished he had taken similar measure when he was banned from the micro-blogging platform in January.

You will recall that the American 45th President was banned by Twitter and Facebook in January for his tweets which allegedly led to the insurrection at the capitol.

In this light, Trump called on other world leaders to take stringent aims at Facebook, Twitter and other big tech players and warned that their reign would soon be over as other competitors would emerge soon.

It is no news that Twitter in Nigeria is temporarily suspended by the Nigerian government after the microblogging giant took down the genocide tweets of President Buhari against the agitators of Biafra.

Twitter became suspended in Nigeria on Friday the 4th of June and the displeasing action of the Nigerian government as described by many has faced worldwide criticism except Trump's.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Nigerian government ban, Twitter said it was working to bypass the restriction and restore access to Nigerians.
