In a decisive operation against criminal elements in Nigeria's Northwestern region, the Nigerian military has successfully rescued 101 individuals who had been held captive by kidnappers in Katsina and Zamfara states. The coordinated efforts also led to the elimination of 10 armed terrorists, marking a significant victory in the ongoing battle against insecurity.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General E.S Buba, provided details of the operation, stating, "Our troops, acting on credible intelligence, conducted simultaneous raids on identified terrorist hideouts. The successful rescue of 101 civilians and the neutralization of 10 insurgents underscore our commitment to restoring peace and security in the affected regions."
The rescued individuals, comprising men, women, and children, had endured harrowing conditions during their captivity. They are currently receiving medical attention and psychological support to facilitate their reintegration into society. The military also recovered a cache of weapons, including assault rifles and ammunition, disrupting the operational capabilities of the criminal groups.
Security experts commend the military's proactive approach but caution that sustained efforts are essential to address the root causes of banditry and insurgency. They advocate for a comprehensive strategy that includes socio-economic development, community engagement, and intelligence-driven operations to ensure lasting peace.
The government reiterates its commitment to supporting the armed forces and implementing policies that promote security, stability, and prosperity across the nation.
