The crisis in Osun State deepened on Monday as local government workers vowed not to return to work until their February salaries are paid. The workers, under the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), accused the state government of failing to prioritize their welfare, despite repeated assurances that salaries would be disbursed soon.
According to the workers, the delay has caused severe hardship, with many struggling to meet their daily needs. They also accused the state government of mismanaging funds, stating that there is no justification for the delay in salary payments.
The ongoing industrial action has already begun to affect government operations at the grassroots level, with residents complaining of delays in services such as issuance of certificates, land permits, and other administrative functions.
In response, the Osun State Government has urged workers to exercise patience, stating that efforts are being made to resolve the salary issue. However, union leaders insist that until the funds are disbursed, workers will remain on strike.
