The Benue State Government announced on April 22, 2025, the appointment of legendary musician Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2baba, as Special Adviser on Entertainment and Creative Economy.

Governor Hyacinth Alia unveiled the decision during a cultural festival in Makurdi, praising 2baba’s global influence and contributions to Nigeria’s music industry as key factors in his selection. The move aims to harness the state’s creative potential, boost tourism, and empower youth through entertainment initiatives.

2baba, a Benue native and multiple award-winning artist, brings decades of experience, with hits like “African Queen” shaping Afrobeats’ global rise. His role involves developing policies to support local talent, attract investors, and promote Benue’s cultural heritage. Alia highlighted plans for a state-of-the-art entertainment hub, with 2baba tasked with leading stakeholder engagements. The government also expects his influence to draw international events, positioning Benue as a creative industry hub.

Residents have welcomed the appointment, with fans flooding social media with praise, though some analysts question whether 2baba’s celebrity status translates to policy expertise. The musician, in a statement, expressed gratitude and pledged to uplift Benue’s youth, citing his Hypertek Digital platform as a model for talent development. His first task includes organizing a Benue Music Festival in July 2025, expected to feature top Nigerian artists.
