Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, known as Davido, sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s entertainment industry on April 19, 2025, when he announced his ambitious plan to venture into filmmaking.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, the 32-year-old Grammy nominee declared, “I can also act,” revealing his intention to star in and produce multiple film projects in 2025. Fresh off the success of his fifth studio album, 5ive, which in 24 hours and topped charts in five African countries, Davido is leveraging his global influence to expand his Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) empire into Nollywood and potentially Hollywood.

Davido’s filmmaking venture builds on his cultural ambassador status, highlighted by his recent Rolling Stone Africa cover and Paris Fashion Week appearance. He teased projects that blend music and storytelling, drawing inspiration from his own journey as a father, artist, and Afrobeats pioneer.

Sources close to DMW suggest he’s eyeing a biopic-style drama and a music-driven comedy, with production slated to begin in Lagos and Atlanta later this year. Nigeria’s ₦300 billion entertainment industry is buzzing, with industry insiders like Obi Asika praising Davido’s vision to elevate African cinema globally.
