Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, one-half of the defunct Psquare duo, revealed on April 14, 2025, that staying silent for 20 years amid an alleged N1.8 billion fraud involving his family “nearly cost me everything.”
Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, Okoye detailed a rift with his twin brother Paul and elder brother Jude, accusing them of diverting funds from their joint company, Northside Entertainment, into a secret entity, Northside Music, since 2004. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is probing the claims, with documents showing N1.8 billion in unaccounted royalties from 2010-2020, per court filings.
Okoye, 43, said he uncovered the scheme in 2024 after hiring forensic auditors, prompted by discrepancies in Psquare’s streaming revenue, which hit 300 million plays globally last year, per Spotify data. “I was loyal, but silence broke my spirit,” he said, alleging Jude siphoned funds for personal ventures.
Paul has denied involvement, calling it a “misunderstanding,” while Jude faces EFCC questioning. The scandal, splitting Nigeria’s music scene, has seen fans rally online, with 80% backing Okoye, per local polls. Okoye vowed to pursue justice, eyeing a solo tour in 2026, as the EFCC sets a June hearing date.
