Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on detractors to evaluate his administration based on its tangible achievements rather than his personal expressions of joy through dance. Addressing criticism over viral videos showcasing his dance moves, Adeleke emphasized that his leadership should be judged by the progress made in infrastructure, education, and healthcare in Osun State since he assumed office in November 2022.
Adeleke, known for his vibrant personality and occasional public dance performances, has faced scrutiny from some quarters accusing him of prioritizing theatrics over governance. In response, the governor highlighted his administration’s accomplishments, including the construction of over 150 kilometers of roads across the state, with at least 1.5 kilometers per local government area. His government has also initiated multi-billion naira infrastructure projects, such as flyovers and road dualization, aimed at improving connectivity and economic activity. Additionally, Adeleke noted investments in education, including school renovations and teacher recruitment, as well as healthcare reforms to enhance access to medical services.
During a recent working visit to the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, in Abuja, Adeleke sought further federal support for road development in Osun, presenting reports on the state of both federal and state roads. He commended the minister’s innovative approach to infrastructure and expressed optimism about a stronger partnership to address Osun’s road challenges. The governor’s administration has also intervened in maintaining federal road corridors, a move Umahi acknowledged as a proactive step.
Adeleke’s defenders argue that his dance videos, often shared during public events or celebrations, reflect his approachable and relatable leadership style, resonating with younger demographics. Critics, however, contend that such displays could distract from the serious demands of governance. Adeleke dismissed these concerns, stating that his cultural expressions do not detract from his commitment to delivering results. He urged residents to focus on his administration’s efforts to transform Osun, including plans to boost agriculture and youth employment, as evidence of his dedication to the state’s progress.
