The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed July 24, 2025, for its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to select a substantive national chairman following Abdullahi Ganduje’s resignation on June 27.
Felix Morka, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, announced that consultations with 1,000 stakeholders, including governors and senators, are underway to ensure a smooth transition. Ganduje, who cited health concerns, stepped down amid pressure from Tinubu’s camp to facilitate Rabiu Kwankwaso’s potential return and North-Central demands to reclaim the chairmanship.
The North-Central, contributing 1.76 million votes in 2023, endorses candidates like Senator George Akume (Benue), Senator Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), and Senator Sani Musa (Niger). Al-Makura, a CPC bloc leader, is favored for his disability advocacy and loyalty to Tinubu, who secured 60% of Nasarawa’s votes.
The NEC, with 200 delegates, will address zoning and 2027 strategies, aiming to retain APC’s 20 state governorships. Kano’s APC plans a reception for Ganduje, reflecting his 70% approval among local members. The meeting, costing N50 million, is critical for Tinubu’s 10 million-vote target in 2027.
