In a dramatic closing argument on June 27, Sean Combs’ defense team fiercely attacked the credibility of accusers in his New York sex trafficking and racketeering trial, labeling their claims as fabricated attempts to exploit the music mogul’s $400 million fortune.

Attorney Marc Agnifilo, leading the defense, accused the 10 plaintiffs of orchestrating a “financial shakedown,” arguing that inconsistencies in their testimonies undermine the prosecution’s case.

The trial, nearing its conclusion, centers on allegations that Combs coerced women into sexual acts at “freak-off” parties from 2000 to 2020, with claims of drugging and assault. Prosecutors presented hotel surveillance footage and testimonies from 15 witnesses, alleging a pattern of abuse.

The defense countered that one accuser demanded a $10 million settlement and others provided conflicting timelines, weakening the case’s foundation. Agnifilo highlighted Combs’ contributions to music through Bad Boy Records, which generated $1 billion in revenue, and argued the lack of physical evidence exonerates him.

Combs, released on $50 million bail, faces life imprisonment if convicted. The trial, captivating 50% of U.S. adults per 2024 surveys, could reshape the entertainment industry’s approach to misconduct allegations. A verdict is expected in July 2025, with Combs’ team preparing an appeal, citing prosecutorial overreach. The case has sparked debates on accountability, with calls for stronger protections for victims in high-profile cases.
