Former presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina, stirred controversy on July 14, 2025, with a candid remark suggesting that former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on July 13, 2025, at age 82 in a London clinic, might have succumbed earlier had he relied on Nigerian healthcare facilities.
Adesina, who was a guest during Channels Television‘s special coverage for Buhari’s funeral on Tuesday, said those who criticised the death of Buhari in a London hospital should understand that the former president had always used London hospitals before he was elected president in May 2015.
The former editor said the UK doctors were already familiar with Buhari’s medical history and there was no need to change them. Adesina said some Nigerian hospitals lacked the facilities and expertise needed for the ex-president’s treatment.
