Former Senate President David Mark asserted that a newly formed National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement, operating under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), will rescue Nigeria from collapse and rebuild its democracy ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Mark, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after 27 years, emphasized the coalition’s mission to address Nigeria’s 33% inflation, 10,217 deaths from insecurity since 2023, and a Naira devaluation impacting 20 million citizens. “This coalition is our last hope to restore governance and economic stability,” he stated, flanked by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
The coalition, launched with 1 million ADC members, aims to unify opposition forces across 15 states, targeting 15 million votes to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC). Mark criticized the APC’s handling of a $36 billion debt and 12,000 MW power deficit, proposing a N2 trillion economic recovery plan.
The initiative, costing N200 million in logistics, includes a national convention by Q1 2026 to select a consensus candidate. With 70% of Nigeria’s 80 million voters expressing frustration, the coalition plans a grassroots campaign, leveraging Mark’s 60% approval in Benue to mobilize 5 million northern voters.
