Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State was involved in a road accident on Sunday, July 20, 2025, sustaining minor injuries, according to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.

The incident occurred at 6:30 PM along the Katsina-Daura highway when the governor’s convoy collided with a commercial bus carrying 15 passengers, none of whom sustained serious harm. Radda, who was en route to a community engagement in Daura, was treated at a local clinic for bruises and released after two hours, with medical reports confirming no fractures.

The accident has raised concerns about road safety in Katsina, where 120 fatalities were recorded in 2025 due to poor infrastructure and reckless driving, per Federal Road Safety Corps data. The bus driver, blamed for overtaking unsafely, was detained, while the governor’s security team cordoned off the scene.

Radda expressed gratitude to supporters via a video message, promising an investigation into the crash. Political opponents have called for a review of convoy protocols, suggesting over-speeding, though no official cause has been confirmed. The incident underscores ongoing safety challenges in Nigeria’s northern region.
