Nigerian troops from Operation Hadin Kai neutralized 10 Boko Haram terrorists in a counter-insurgency operation in Borno State’s Gwoza Local Government Area, recovering a significant cache of weapons, including 15 AK-47 rifles, 20 IEDs, and 5,000 rounds of ammunition.
The operation, launched after intelligence reports of a planned attack on civilian communities, involved the 7th Division and local vigilantes, targeting a hideout in the Mandara Mountains. Major General Edward Buba, Defence Headquarters spokesperson, confirmed the success, noting no troop casualties.
The operation disrupted a plot to attack Gwoza’s market, which serves 50,000 residents. Since 2023, Nigerian forces have eliminated 300 terrorist commanders, reducing Boko Haram’s operational capacity by 40%, per military data.
The recovered weapons, valued at N50 million, were linked to a supply chain from Chad, prompting plans for a joint border patrol with 1,000 troops by Q3 2025. The operation aligns with President Tinubu’s security reforms, which have cut terrorist attacks by 20% in 2024. Community leaders, representing 70% of Gwoza’s population, praised the military but urged sustained efforts to address the 1.2 million IDPs in Borno.
