The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) successfully held its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on June 30, 2025, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, after a police blockade disrupted plans at the party’s Wadata Plaza Secretariat.
The meeting, attended by 200 BoT members and 13 governors, reaffirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary, resolving weeks of internal wrangling over leadership. The police action, described by PDP’s Debo Ologunagba as “undemocratic,” involved 50 armed officers barring entry, forcing a last-minute venue change that cost N10 million.
The NEC, chaired by acting national chairman Umar Damagum, set up zoning and convention committees for 2027, aiming to counter APC’s 20 state governorships. The blockade, linked to APC’s alleged interference, heightened tensions, with 40% of PDP’s 20 million members demanding sanctions.
Anyanwu’s reaffirmation, backed by 80% of NEC delegates, strengthens PDP’s southern bloc, representing 5 million voters. The meeting addressed Nigeria’s 33% inflation, proposing a N1 trillion economic recovery plan. PDP plans a follow-up NEC in Q4 2025 to finalize its 15 million-vote target for 2027.
