Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on August 7, 2025, ordered the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority to place fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, known as KWAM 1, on a no-fly list following an altercation at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The incident, occurring on August 5 during boarding for a ValueJet flight to Lagos, involved KWAM 1 allegedly spilling an unidentified liquid, suspected to be alcohol, on an aviation officer after attempting to board with a prohibited flask. Keyamo warned that any airline flouting the directive risks losing its operating license, emphasizing zero tolerance for safety breaches in Nigeria’s $2 billion aviation sector.
The Federal Airports Authority reported that KWAM 1’s actions disrupted boarding, prompted a 30-minute flight delay. The NCAA suspended two ValueJet pilots for taxiing while KWAM 1 blocked the aircraft, a move Keyamo endorsed but criticized as one-sided, leading to the no-fly directive.
The musician, a prominent Tinubu supporter who performed at the 2023 inaugural ball, faces a six-month flight ban pending investigation, with 80% of aviation officials backing strict enforcement. KWAM 1 denied allegations of unruly conduct, claiming the spill was accidental.
