LAGOS, Nigeria — Controversial Nigerian content creator, DJ Chicken, whose real name is Ademola Abiodun, has been released from detention after meeting the bail conditions imposed by a Lagos Magistrate Court.
His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed the development in an Instagram Story on Tuesday with a brief message that read, “All glory to God. DJ Chicken.”
Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, also announced the content creator’s release in a post on X.
Sowore wrote, “DJ Chicken (real name Ademola Abiodun) is free and reunited with his family, friends, and loved ones.”
He added, “No one should suffer oppression while the rest of us watch in silence, especially at the hands of powerful and corrupt forces.
“An injury to one is an injury to all. We will continue to stand up for the weak and fight against injustice wherever it occurs.”
A livestream shared on Instagram shortly after his release showed DJ Chicken inside a vehicle, smiling and interacting with his followers.
His lawyer was also seen inside the vehicle during the livestream, which was later screen-recorded and circulated across social media platforms.
DJ Chicken had been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on Friday after he was arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in the Ogba area of Lagos State over an alleged threat to kill Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
Content Creator Faces Three-Count Charge
The content creator was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on alleged violations of the Cybercrimes Act, breach of peace and making threats to kill.
The charges followed a viral video in which he allegedly claimed that President Bola Tinubu would not win re-election in 2027.
Following public backlash over the video, DJ Chicken reportedly retracted the statement, insisting that it was a joke intended to attract attention and increase his popularity.
Despite the apology, he was arrested and subsequently brought before the court.
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Court Grants ₦1m Bail
The court subsequently granted DJ Chicken bail in the sum of ₦1 million, with two sureties in like sum.
The court directed that one of the sureties must be a civil servant, while the other must be a community leader with landed property in Lagos State.
Both sureties were also ordered to provide three years' tax clearance certificates, utility bills, National Identification Number details and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency registration.
The court further directed that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.
The case was adjourned until August 3, 2026, while DJ Chicken was initially ordered to remain in custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
His release comes days after the remand order and has sparked reactions across social media, with supporters welcoming his freedom as the legal proceedings are expected to continue in August.
